Mr Edwards’ undergraduate medical training was at the University of Melbourne mostly through The Royal Melbourne Hospital where he undertook surgical resident & registrar training. He gained a Diploma of Anatomy whilst lecturing Anatomy at the University of Melbourne and later taught anatomy at Stanford University in California. He became involved in molecular biology research through The Ludwig Institute of Cancer Research and was awarded the degree of Master of Surgery through the University of Melbourne. General orthopaedic training was with the Victorian Orthopaedic Program & he gained a fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
Advanced (fellowship) training in Foot and Ankle Surgery was completed at three separate centres:
- The Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford
- Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore
- Emory University in Atlanta.
Following return to Australia, he was admitted as a fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association.
